October 9, 2014 - The Men's Water Polo team played host to Miramar on Wednesday in their 2nd match up of the season. The last time these two teams met, it was an offense explosion on both sides of the ball with Mesa outscoring Miramar 23-16. This time, Mesa's defense was a factor for the Jets as they held them to only 9 goals while stealing from 11 times. A large part of that crucial defense was netminder, Jesse Reiling who stopped 15 potential goals. On the offensive side, Sophomore Armani Antonellis lead the Olympians in goals with six on the day while Freshman Cheyne Merrill added four goals and four assists.
The game started off with a hurry up goal by Mesa in the first 30 seconds of the game but Miramar answered back 28 seconds later to tie and then scored after a Mesa ejection to take a lead and for every goal Mesa scored, Miramar answered with a goal of their own ending the 1st quarter 4-3 Mesa. The rest of the game was owned by the Olympians as they ran off 16 more goals over the next three quarters while holding Miramar to six. With this win, Mesa improves their record to 4-2 in conference play and 11-7 overall.
