October 9, 2014 - The Women's Water Polo team has been on a hot streak as they enter the second round of conference play. Heading into their match up against the visiting Miramar Jets, Mesa was 5-0 against other Pacific Coast Athletic Confernece teams and 11-2 overall.
The Olympians started the game off in a hurry scoring in their first possession only 32 seconds into the game and then scoring a second goal a minute later. Miramar answered back following a Mesa ejection in an attempt to close the score gap to 2-1 but Mesa came up big with 31 seconds left and fired off another goal to end the first quarter 3-1. The 2nd quarter became a defensive battle between the two PCAC colleges as Mesa scored the only goal of the quarter. Then in the third, the Olympians rallied and scored four goals in eight minutes of play to widen the gap to 8-2. The final quarter was another defensive battle and the Jets were able to get two goals past Mesa's netminder but it wouldn't be enough to give the home team their first loss in conference play. The game ended with Mesa 9 to Miramar's 4.
Helping Mesa in their sixth straight win was freshman goalie Madi Atkins. Atkins was in top form against the Jets stopping 11 shots while earning herself 2 steals. Offensively, the win was a team effort as goals came from six different team members including two each from the freshman trio of Savannah Phillips, Ellie Williams, and Audrey Riggs.
