Despite dropping their first match of the season against Mesa Arizona Community College, the San Diego Mesa women’s beach volleyball team continues to play strong, competitive volleyball.
The team opened the season with a 4–0 start, showing the coaching staff their ability to respond when challenges arise. Their previous three matches against Santa Monica College, Santa Barbara City College, and Moorpark College all ended with identical 3–2 victories.
“I’ve been impressed with the matches we’ve pulled off in three sets,” said head coach Kim Lester. “We still need to improve our execution, first touch, and overall strategy. But overall, we’re making progress. One thing I’d like to see more of is a greater sense of urgency from our players.”
As was the case last season, the team is currently dealing with illness, which has led to players missing practices and matches. This has made pairings more challenging. However, the team believes it has identified the right combinations and will continue to build chemistry throughout the season.
