(LONG BEACH, Calif.) Westmont Baseball (38-12) received numerous honors today from the PacWest. Three Warriors received, "… of the Year" awards and nine were named to all-conference teams.
Senior Ryan Humphreys was named the PacWest Pitcher of the Year and a member of the All-PacWest first team. Humphreys leads the conference-only stats in earned run average (2.22), opposing batting average (.165), wins (10), fewest hits allowed (38), and fewest runs allowed (16).
"Ryan has been a bulldog on the mound," said Westmont's head coach Paul Svagdis. "He has been a phenomenal leader on and off the field."
Humphreys is the Westmont career leader in strikeouts per nine inning game at 12.57. He ranks second in Westmont history in career lowest batting average by opponents (.195) and third in career strikeouts at 291.
Michael Soper was named the PacWest Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-PacWest third team. The senior second baseman has not committed an error in 180 chances (85 putouts and 95 assists). He has also been a part of 18 double plays.
Offensively, Soper is hitting .298 with an OPS of .892. He has 44 hits including 10 doubles, a triple and four home runs. He has driven in 18 RBIs. His 30 in-conference walks ranks fourth in the PacWest. He is tied for fifth with 12 in-conference stolen bases and leads the team with 16 stolen bases overall.
"Micheal is the consummate baseball player," noted Svagdis. "He has a great capacity to understand the nuances of the game and brings a steady confidence to his teammates through his consistent game-to-game approach."
Soper's 113 career runs scored is 13th most in Westmont history and his 99 career RBIs is 16th.
In his first year at the helm of Westmont Baseball, Svagdis was honored as the PacWest Coach of the Year. Under his leadership, the Warriors won the PacWest Regular Season Championship with a conference record of 33-10. The Warriors enter this week's PacWest Tournament as the number one seed.
"Paul has done a fantastic job in his first year of leadership over our baseball program," said Westmont's director of athletics Robert Ruiz. "I am thrilled that his efforts have been recognized by the conference.
"I am thankful for how mindful he has been about managing so well the second coaching transition for seniors. We are proud of this team for earning our first PacWest regular season title under his leadership. This is a well-deserved honor."
This is the second year in a row in which Westmont's head coach was named the PacWest Coach of the Year. Last year, Tyler LaTorre was given that honor.
Joining Humphreys on the All-PacWest first team is relief pitcher Zach. The senior right-hander is tied for third in the NCAA Division II for most saves with 11 and leads the PacWest. He is one save shy of tying the Warriors' single season record. Yates produced a season ERA of 2.25
"Mr. Westmont - Zach has been a tremendous leader on the field, in the classroom, and in our faith community," said Svagdis. "He has a fun and energetic personality outside the lines. On the mound, he is a great competitor and team-first leader."
Yates has 23 career saves and 44 career games finished, both of which are program records for the Warriors.
Three Warriors were named to the All-PacWest second team – catcher Shane Hofstadler, outfielder Bryce McFeely and starting pitcher Bryan Peck.
Hofstadler has produced a batting average of .275 and an OPS of .936. More than half of his 28 hits have been for extra bases (six doubles, one triple, eight home runs). The senior has driven in 25 runs.
"Shane has been an incredible leader this year," expressed Svagdis. "He is a veteran backstop behind the plate and has done a tremendous job competing for his teammates each day at practice and in games."
With a .633 career slugging percentage, Hofstadler ranks third in Warrior history. His 20 career home runs are 12th most in the record books.
McFeely is second on the team this season in batting average at .347 and third in slugging percentage at .588. He is first on the team in on base percentage (.454), OPS (1.020), hits (59), and RBIs (43).
"One of the kindest and hardest working players I've had the opportunity to coach, Bryce gives 100% effort in all he does," said Svagdis. "He is a great competitor and even better teammate."
McFeely, also a senior, has scored 139 runs in his career, fifth most in Warrior history. He is also fifth in career home runs at 28 and third in career runs batted in at 140.
Peck ranks fifth in conference-only ERA at 3.69. This year, he has tallied 61 strikeouts while logging 73 1/3 innings.
"Bryan has been a workhorse for the Warriors over the last four years," noted Svagdis. "Bryan has been a very engaged and bright pitcher that is consistently working to improve his game."
Peck is the all-time wins leader for the Warriors with 31 and has pitched 339 2/3 career innings, which ranks second. His 315 strikeouts are also a Westmont career record.
The All-PacWest third team features three Warriors in addition to Soper – Daniel Patterson, Trey Dunn and Jesse Di Maggio.
Patterson has a .303 batting average this season and a .985 OPS. Patterson leads the Warriors in runs scored with 50 and is second in hits with 54. He is tied with McFeely for the most total bases at 100 and is second in walks with 32.
"Daniel has been an energy bus for our team," expressed Svagdis. "He is a great competitor with the ability to pick up his teammates and keep moving forward with a great smile and positive energy."
Patterson ranks third in Westmont's career home runs with 29 and is sixth in career slugging percentage at .609.
Dunn's batting average in 2025 is .301 with an OPS of .960. He leads the Warriors with 12 home runs and is third with 95 total bases. He also leads the Warriors with five sacrifice flies.
"Trey is an ultimate competitor and fierce worker," reported Svagdis. "His commitment to improving his game by getting in the weight room and working on his craft is only eclipsed by his day-to-day work habits at practice."
Dunn's 21 career home runs are tied for seventh in the Westmont record book.
DiMaggio's .370 batting average was best among the Warriors this season and his 1.020 OPS ranks second. His 41 hits included 11 doubles and seven home runs. The freshman drove in 40 runs.
"Jesse has been a lot of fun to work with," said Svagdis. "He has shown a great capacity and desire to improve in practice day in and day out and works to be his best each day."
Westmont will begin play on Wednesday in the PacWest Tournament with an opening game against Biola (26-25, 23-21 PacWest) at noon. The tournament is hosted by Fresno Pacific.
