The 3C2A has named San Diego Mesa College sprints, hurdles, and relays coach Matthew Beckstead the 2025 Men’s Track and Field Assistant Coach of the Year.

In his eighth season at Mesa, Beckstead has been instrumental to the program’s success. “Coach Beck has been an instrumental part in the programs development and success over the past 8 years.,” said head coach Sean Ricketts. “He is a successful recruiter and has become an elite level coach with sprints and relays and as a strength coach for both track and the cross country program.”

In 2024, the men’s team finished second at the state championships and the women’s team placed third. The Olympians won seven of eight individual events, with the men’s 4x100 and 4x400 relays both claiming state titles for the first time in school history. Jaden Dasher also captured  the 400-meter hurdles state crown.

Coaches are nominated by their peers at the conclusion of the season, and the 5C2A Executive Board then selects the award winner.
