Men’s Track and Field Place Second at State Championships, Capture Six Individual Titles

The 2025 3C2A Track and Field State Championships delivered an exciting finish that came down to the wire. The Olympians battled, but just fell short, finishing a razor-thin five points behind Riverside City College for the title.

When the dust settled after all 21 events, Riverside City College sit atop the podium with 98 points, with Mesa College close behind at 93, and Mt. San Antonio College rounding out the top three at 88.50.

Although the team just came up short, their recent performances at the state championships solidify their status as one of the top programs in the state. Over the last four years speaks they have finished: three second-place podium finishes and one third-place finish.

Sophomore Ian Rosen continued his dominance in the 800 meter,  defending his title with a time of 1:51.97. Rosen, a team captain on this year's squad was favored going into the event. "He is a true competitor and leads by example,' says head coach Sean Ricketts. "He did not leave any questions to who was going to win the 800m by making a strong surge to move away from the field the last 250m to defend his state title.  This was after doubling back from the 1500m.

Team captain Lucas Scott, despite dealing with groin strain after the conference finals, was able to separate himself from the field after his last throw of 62.83m 206'1. This is the second consecutive year that Mesa has claimed the javelin title. Kyle Wood last season placed first with a throw of 203'9.

Jaden Dasher executed a perfect game plan in the 400 meters hurdles. Dasher, a sophomore out of Oceanside, California finished his event with a time of 52.52, despite battling 20-30 MPH wind gusts.

Ronald Way finished in first place in the 10K with a time of 31:30.82. Way followed his race plan and dominated the last seven laps, while battling the wind. Way consistently pushed the pace with about 1 one-minute negative split from his first 5K to his second 5K.

Both the 4x100 meter and 4x400 meter teams dominated, and set the tone for the meet. 'Coach Matthew Beckstead deserves a lot of the credit for the performance of these teams,' states Ricketts. The men's 4x400m repeat as the state champion with a time of 3:12.69  (Marcel Acosta, Shamarion Unden, Ryan Mann, Jaden Dasher).
