The men’s volleyball team has evened its record at 9–9, reaching the .500 mark. Although this is a step back from last year’s impressive 15–3 record at the same point in the season, they still have a strong opportunity to build momentum and make a push for the playoffs.
“We feel like we got off to a bit of a rocky start,” said head coach David Proffitt. “But I think we’ve since found our footing. The guys have really come together as a team, and they’re playing with confidence right now.”
Unlike last season, when the team put together an eight-game winning streak and two separate six-game runs, the Olympians have yet to find that same level of consistency this season. However, the two previous games might be an early look that things are turning around.
The team is coming off two impressive victories against Irvine Valley College and previously ranked No. 2 Golden West College, signaling that they are beginning to hit their stride at the right time.
With just one month remaining in the regular season, the Olympians are entering an important stretch. They will host Santiago Canyon College and San Diego Miramar College before traveling to Palomar College and Grossmont College to close out the regular season.
“These last two wins definitely helped our playoff picture immensely,” Proffitt added. “We’re currently second in the Southern Region pod, and we just need to keep playing to our potential.”
Key contributors will continue to play a vital role down the stretch. Ryan Enos is expected to maintain his strong performance, while Slater Beachem will anchor the offense at setter. Middle hitter Dane Roblee has also been a consistent force throughout the season and will be relied upon as the team pushes toward the postseason.
The Olympians will host Santiago Canyon College on Wednesday, April 1, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a home matchup against conference rival San Diego Miramar College on Friday, April 3, also at 6:00 p.m.
