Mesa Runs Strong at Vanguard XC Invite
The San Diego Mesa Men's and Women's Cross Country Program traveled to the 30th annual Vanguard XC Invite at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley on Friday.  The meet included a mix of four year and community college programs.
 

The Olympian Women (Ranked 6th in the CCCAA) placed 3rd with 97 points out of 8 teams in the 5K race. The Masters University Women (Ranked 6th in NAIA) won with 34 points.  The five scorers included Sophomore Yahaira Zuniga third place (18:11), Freshman Gina Queck fourth place (18:16), Sophomore Beyonce Wright twenty fourth place (19:53), Freshman Raegan Beckham thirty fourth place (21:00), and Freshman Briana Ayala sixty second place (22:48).

The SD Mesa Men (Ranked 2nd in the CCCAA) edged Master's University (Ranked 6th in NAIA) 37-40 in 8K race lead by the individual winner (24:45) Sophomore Jonathan Kelly who set the course record. Other key scorers included Sophomore Esteban Magana third place (25:03), Freshman Juan Rosales eighth place (25:33), Freshman Devin Provence ninth place (25:35), and Freshman Alan Jimenez sixteenth place (25:50).

"Our squad ran well in the wet conditions.  We were impressed with how strong they ran the second half of the race and a majority of the team ran personal bests", said Head Coach Sean Ricketts. 

Next up for the Olympians is the Highlander XC Invite at the UC Riverside Agricultural Course next Saturday, October 17.  The Men race 8K at 8:00AM and the Women race 6K at 8:40AM.
