The San Diego Mesa College softball team is on a roll, improving to 20–7 overall and 6–3 in conference play.
The Olympians are in the middle of a five-game winning streak, which began with a doubleheader sweep of No. 2-ranked Cypress College. Mesa bested the Chargers 4–3 in both games, which bumped the Olympians up to # 6 in the Southern rankings.
Sophomore Olivia Anderson turned in one of her best performances of the season, throwing 11 innings across the two games. Freshman first base/ pitcher Sophia Sanchez came in to close out Game 2 and secure the sweep. Sanchez was also solid at the plate in Game 1, connecting on a three-run home run in the first inning to set the tone early.
Another freshman that's been adding pop in the line up is shortstop Itzel Soto, who went 3-for-4. An Otay Ranch High School product she is batting .419 with 6 home runs, 19 RBI’s, 6 stolen bases, and 33 runs.
In the second game, freshman Alexis Serrano finished 2-for-2 with a walk. Serrano, out of Mater Dei High School stat line is impressive. She currently has a .330 average, 7 home runs, 28 RBI’s, and 14 runs.
“This was a big win for the program,” said head coach Jaclyn Guidi. “Our defense was spectacular in both games, committing only one error. If we keep playing like this and continue to fight, we can compete with anybody.”
Mesa carried that momentum into its next games, dominating Grossmont College 14–0 before picking up a 6–2 win over Mt. San Antonio College.
The Olympians will look to keep it going at home against Imperial Valley College on Tuesday, March 31. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
