Women's Track Finish Fourth at State Championships Behind Three State Titles

The San Diego Mesa College women’s track and field team closed out another strong season with a fourth-place finish at the 2026 3C2A State Championships, held at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College.

The Olympians finished with 60 points, finishing just eight points shy of a podium spot behind third-place Modesto College. Mt. San Antonio College claimed the state title with 117 points, while Cerritos College placed second with 72. Although Mesa barely missed a top-three finish, the season was filled with breakthrough performances, state titles, and All-American honors.

Sophomore Natalie Allen had one of the biggest moments of the meet by claiming the state championship in the 10,000 meters. Allen crossed the line in 37:49.11, setting a new Mesa school record. She later added another All-American performance in the 5,000 meters, finishing second in 18:19.89.

Jazzlyn Islas dominated, capturing state titles in both the 1,500 and 800 meters. In the 1,500, Islas made her move on the backstretch before separating from the field and winning in 4:43.93. She followed that with another incredible run in the 800, taking the lead early and holding off the field to finish in a state season-best 2:12.36.

Mesa also performed well in the field events and multi-events competition. Chanel Wells placed sixth in the pole vault after clearing 3.40 meters (11 feet, 1.75 inches). Emily Plesch recorded a sixth-place finish in the heptathlon with 4,381 points while also placing eighth in the high jump at 1.55 meters (5 feet, 1 inch) and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.95.

On the track, Kassie Lofgran had an eighth-place finish in the 100 meters, crossing the line in 12.18.

In the relay events,  Mesa’s 4x400 relay team of Helena Baez, Kayden Coker, Bianca Calafato, and Jazzlyn Islas placed second overall with a time of 3:52.42. 

The 4x100 relay squad of Abrielle Hagans, Kassie Lofgran, Mallory Worursky, and Helena Baez added another podium finish by taking third in 47.08.
