Title: Hurdles

Maximilian Pinto started his athletic career at University City High
School in San Diego as a freshman. With help from his head coach, John
Hutsel (who has been coaching since 1981) Pinto became a student of
the sport. Falling in love with the history and technical aspect of
the hurdles, he began thinking about a coaching career path for after
athletics ended. Pinto graduated UC High School in 2019 and was hired
that summer as the hurdles coach. Once graduated from high school, he
decided to continue his career down the freeway at San Diego Mesa
College, where he would be coached by San Diego great, Wes Williams.

After attending Mesa for 2 years without running for the team (two
season postponed due to covid), Pinto graduated with his associate
degree in business administration. With unfinished business left, the
decision was made to return and run under Wes Williams for another two
years. He continued his education while competing by taking classes
focused primarily on finance, philosophy and photography. The decision
to stay paid off and it led to All-American honors, two State
Championship top 5 finishes in the 110H and two second place team
finishes at State Championships. While competing, he continued to
coach at UC and took his first athlete as a coach to a CIF Section
Championship in the 110H during the 2022 season.

Similar to how his coaching career at the high school level, it began
at the college level. Immediately after his last college meet, he was
hired on as a hurdles coach to assist his former coach, Wes Williams.
In his first season (2023) on the coaching staff, he helped coached
the conference champion in both men’s hurdles events, an All-American
in the 400H and one of the top 10 fastest 110H in the state.

Off the track, Pinto enjoyed two seasons (2021-2022) as a full time
off road racer in the Great American Short Course Series (off road
racing being the family sport). With down time these days, Pinto can
usually be spotted at the golf course or at any sporting event doing
photography.
